Solidarity on Stage: Powerful Message on Palestine at UHE Theater Festival.
Lahore (Thursday, November 16, 2023): The Inter-University Theatre Festival concluded with the solidarity of Palestinian at University of Home Economics (UHE) Lahore with the first position of Kinnaird College.
The Theatre Festival was jointly organized by the Department of Visual and Communication Design and the Department of English, witnessed the participation of students from eight universities.
Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, graced the occasion as the chief guest, and Prof. Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi was a guest of honor including a significant number of teachers and students.
Kinnaird College’s “Jugno” secured the first place, with Punjab University Old Campus earning second place for their performance on “Dil Hai Pakistani”, and third-best performance was awarded to PU New Campus students for their enactment of the central theme of “Yahan Papandi Kalam Hai”.
Individual recognitions were also bestowed upon outstanding contributors: Mian Ahmed received the Best Actor award, Areeba Khan Baloch was named Best Actress, Dr. Ahmed Bilal earned the title of Best Writer, and Dr. Nadia was recognized as the Best Director.
The judging panel, comprising Shahid Nadeem (founder of Ajoka Theatre), renowned artist Professor Shah Nawaz Zaidi, Sadia Sarmad, and Sibt e Hasan, evaluated performances from students representing Kinnaird College, Lahore College for Women University, National College of Arts, NUML, and Home Economics University.
During the festival, Vice Chancellor Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi commended the artists for shedding light on Israeli aggression and the atrocities committed against Palestinians through their exceptional performances. She expressed optimism about the theatre festival’s role in advancing art education and motivating female students in the pursuit of creative expression.
