Lahore (Thursday 09th February 2023): The 2023 Sports Gala concluded successfully at the University of Home Economics (UHE) Lahore on Thursday with more pomp and excitement as the 3-day event attracted participation from all academic and administrative departments in the University.
This year’s sports gala was bigger and livelier with over 600 students and staff participating in various competitions and “Celebrating Athleticism of Women” was the main theme of the event.
Mrs. Governor Punjab was invited as a guest of honor in the closing ceremony of the 3-days sports gala, last day was kicked off with an attractive parade, aerobics, a 100-meter race, martial arts, tug of war, musical chairs, and basketball competition.
While addressing the students, Mrs. Governor Punjab stated that whether you have won a medal or not, you are all winners. In a long run, your active and continued participation in sports and athletics would pay you rich dividends in terms of fitness, well-being, and happiness.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen said sports, particularly team sports engender purposeful and meaningful social relationships. She further said sports are a source of inspiration and motivation; I hope three days of competitions helped you to connect and interact with various students.
She emphasized these interactions with your friends and workmates provide you with highly desirable security, belongingness, and ultimately happiness. Therefore, winning or losing in sports or athletics is not at all important, but the happiness originating from participation in sports or athletics is a highly cherished trophy.
Students participated in 13 different games and competitions. Mrs. Governor Punjab distributed prizes among the winners.
Table Tennis competition was won by 6th-year student Malaika Pervaiz, Emman Naveed got 1st position in Ludo, Nashrah Nadeem got 1st position in Chess, Saman Fatima stood on 1st position in Badminton, the student council team won the Tug of War competition.
Ayesha Tahir got 1st position in Short Put, Mishal Babar won the 400 & 100-meter flat race, Mehtab Zahra stood first in Relay Race, and the cricket match was won by the University team by beating the intermediate team.
Director Academic Tahir Ilyas and Assistant Director Sports Rabia Karim congratulated all students who participated in competitions and arrangements.
