Chancellor UHE and Governor Punjab Emphasize Poverty Alleviation at Sustainable Development Conference in Pakistan
Chancellor UHE, Governor Punjab underscored the paramount importance of uplifting individuals from poverty in the closing ceremony of the Int’l Conference on Sustainable Development in Pakistan.
A three-day international conference centered on sustainable development in Pakistan, marking a significant stride towards fostering a resilient future.
In his keynote address to the conference, Hon’ble Mr. Baleegh ur Rehman, Governor of Punjab, underscored the paramount importance of uplifting individuals from poverty, emphasizing it as the cornerstone of sustainable development efforts.
He emphasized the necessity of upholding the rule of law and ensuring universal access to education up to the age of 16, asserting it as a fundamental responsibility of governmental bodies.
Highlighting the indispensable role of educational institutions, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission stressed that the Sustainable Development Goals cannot be attained without active engagement and support from universities.
He advocated for the empowerment of women across all spheres of life, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities to catalyze progress.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the collaborative efforts between the university and the provincial government, noting advancements such as the appointment of key administrative positions and fostering bilateral relations with neighboring countries.
Saira Afzal Tarar, former federal minister, reiterated the pivotal role of women in national development, calling for cultural integration and the creation of conducive environments to safeguard their rights.
Acknowledging the transformative role of UHE, the Provincial Minority Affairs Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to combatting gender-based violence and implementing recommendations put forth by the academic community.
The conference witnessed participation from esteemed personalities and scholars, reflecting a collective commitment towards realizing sustainable development objectives.
With the backing of Punjab’s Governor, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Faleha Zahra Kazmi shared the successful appointment of a permanent treasurer and controller of examinations.
Furthermore, Dr. Kazmi noted the presentation of 90 research papers during the conference, attributing this accomplishment to government attention.
Dr. Kazmi also highlighted the fostering of positive relations with Iran, facilitated by the government’s efforts, underscoring a commitment to promoting bilateral harmony through a Nurooz celebration. She thanked Dr. Iram Rubab, the Secretary of the Conference, Dr. Tayyaba Sohail, and the organizing team.
