UHE awards two PhD degrees
Lahore (Tuesday 31st December 2024): The Research Program Coordination Committee (RPCC) of University of Home Economics Lahore arranged a public defense of its two PhD scholar، Ms. Amna Khalid Qureshi in subject of PhD Home Economics (Housing, Home Management and Interior Design) on topic of An Exploration of Smart Material Innovation in Interior Textiles.
Whereas Ms. Komal Hassan in subject of PhD in Home Economics (Human Development and Family Studies) on topic of Predictors of Resilience and Efficacy of Resilience Enhancement Program in Young Adults have successfully defended their PhD theses and have been awarded their doctoral degrees.
The research study of Ms. Komal Hassan, PhD Scholar, has shed light on the predictors of resilience and the effectiveness of resilience enhancement program among young adults in Punjab, Pakistan. Researcher collected data from 600 young adults aged 18-22 years, examining links between resilience and factors such as self-esteem, self-efficacy, meaning in life, social support, and grit.
The study calls for universities to adopt resilience-based counselling and education programs, emphasizing the need for youth empowerment initiatives to equip young adults with the skills to thrive in challenging circumstances.
The findings of this study align with our vision of promoting youth empowerment through innovative educational interventions and counselling programs.
Whereas the research study of Ms. Amna Khalid, has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation in the home textile sector: mosquito-repellent window fabrics designed to enhance interior aesthetics while protecting against vector-borne diseases.
The public defense was also attended by Prof. Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, VC UHE, Dr. Shahnila Tariq (UMT), Dr. Asma Akmal, (Women College Cantt), Dr. Attiya Inam, (Women College Gulberg), Dr. Iram Fatima (PU), Dr. Sabahat Alamgir (UET), Dr. Saima Waseem, (USA), Dr. Sadia Farooq, Dr. Shahzad Maqsood Khan (PU), Dr. Mumtaz Hassan Malik (UMT) were the external examiners for public defense.
Prof. Kazmi congratulated Komal and Amna for completion of their PhD degrees.
She added that this groundbreaking research highlights the critical importance of fostering resilience among young adults, particularly in the challenging socio-economic landscape of Pakistan.
