Leadership Development Project launches at UHE
Lahore (Monday, September 30, 2024): A project aimed at developing leadership skills among female students was inaugurated at Home Economics University in collaboration with Idea Think Tank, as part of the Strengthening Women Development Centers initiative established in public universities.
The event was attended by US Consul General Christine Hawkins, Rana Sikandar Hayat, Minister HED, Prof. Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, VC UHE, senior journalist Salman Ghani, Director of Idea Think Tank Salman Abid, Dr. Raa’na Malik, Dr. Asif Munir, faculty members, and students.
The project will train students from four universities, including the University of Home Economics Lahore, to empower female students with essential leadership skills. At the event, Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted that female students excel in matriculation and intermediate exams, and announced that the government will distribute laptops to 40,000 students next month.
He emphasized that Women’s Development Centers in universities are crucial for enhancing the skills of female students.
Prof. Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi noted that UHE is dedicated to developing the professional skills of its students. Through the Women Development Center, students are provided with internships to help them gain practical experience.
US Consul General Christine Hawkins addressed the audience, stating that the United States is offering scholarships for Masters and PhD programs to Pakistani students. She emphasized the critical role women play in social development and reiterated the US’s commitment to supporting women’s advancement.
Senior journalist Salman Ghani remarked that women are making significant contributions across all sectors in Pakistan. He stressed that for Pakistan to progress, it must place equal trust in women alongside men.
Director of Idea Think Tank Salman Abid explained that the project’s first phase includes four universities, selecting 25 female students from each based on merit. These students will undergo a six-month training program focused on leadership development. He praised the active role of the Women Development Center of UHE in fostering the growth of students.
