Autism Awareness Seminar
The Department of Psychology and the Department of Human Development jointly hosted a seminar focused on raising awareness about autism.
Distinguished speakers graced the event, including Dr. Shazia Nasir, who, drawing from her experience as an educator, elaborated on strategies for teachers to adapt their approaches and foster inclusive learning environments tailored to the needs of autistic students.
Professor Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar shared insights, asserting that autism should be viewed not as a disease but as a condition requiring management.
He urged for societal adaptation, emphasizing that divergent perspectives should not be pathologized but embraced for a more inclusive society.
Ms. Saima Saeed, Secretary of the Special Education Department in the Government of Punjab, highlighted the necessity of providing appropriate educational environments for autistic students.
She outlined the initiatives taken by special education department to establish dedicated educational facilities for autistic students.
Students of Department of Psychology and Human Development presented a play highlighting the struggles and societal stigma faced by parents and caregivers of children having Autism.
Dr. Ayesha Sarfaraz, Head of the Department of Psychology, and Dr. Ayesha Khalid, Head of the Department of Human Development, gave souvenirs to the chief guest and guest speakers.
